Bodycount #3 of 4

Writer: Kevin Eastman
Artist: Simon Bisley
Publisher: Image Comics
Published: May 1996

I love the TMNT. Always have. Always will. So the day I read Bodycount by Bisley and Eastman, I must admit, I was a tad bit disappointed. The series is pretty much a blood splatter, balls-to-the-wall orgy of violence and chaos. There is a slight plot of crazy killer bad guys chasing Casey Jones and Raphael over something or other, but the main thing I got out of this series was "let's see how many things/people we can kill and make explode." Raphael is a nutcase, and Casey is a lesser degree of nutcase. Storywise I found it lacking, but then again, I'm picky with my TMNT stories. However, if you like things exploding, tough guy machoisms, big breasted ladies, pimps, drugs, guns - lots of guns, blood, and Raphael wearing blue jeans - then this is the series for you.

Raphael in blue jeans somehow works. Go green.

The Savage Sensational She-Hulk # 3 AKA # 100

Writer: Dan Slott, Stan Lee, John Byrne
Artists: Juan Bobillo, Paul Pelletier & Rick Magyar, Scott Kolins, Mike Vossburg, Amanda Conner & Jimmy Palmiotti, Ron Frenz , Joe Sinnott & Sal Buscema, Mike Mayhew, Don Simpson, Le Weeks, Eric Powell, Tom Grummett & Gary Erskine, John Buscema & Chic Stone, John Byrne

Issue # 100 of my 365 run. Hard to believe that I was able to actually stick it out this long. Just so people know, I got this idea from my girlfriend who told me about people who take a picture of themselves everyday for a year and post it on the internet. I thought the idea was neat, but I didn't have the right amount of narcissism to do that, so I thought I would instead talk comics everyday. Hopefully I drive this "bug" out of me and I can start focusing on more important matters like world peas and developing my dream home, Baconland™. It'll be like MJ's Neverland ranch, but instead of inviting at-risk youth to stay with me to find inner peace, I'll be cooking and packaging at-risk youth for wholesal - um, what I mean is I'll have them fight each other to the death in a bacon paradise. Then I'll cook and package the losers.

I know, I know, sick...but they were at-risk from the start, so you can't get upset with me for profiting on the risk they face EVERY. DAY. OF. THEIR. LIVES.

Support your local youth shelter.

The 100 issue has She-Hulk on trial for messing with the Timeline to try and warn Hawkeye of his future doom. The entire Marvel Universe who has ever had anything to do with She-Hulk is brought forth to testify and vouch for her, cause if the trial finds her guilty - she'll be erased from time! The issue pretty much goes on to have witnesses come forth and describe an event where the outcome could not have been achieve if it were not for She-Hulk's help. One of the funniest segments of the trial is when Razorback goes on to describe how She-Hulk was able to defeat the Piratasaurs when her spacesuit was destroyed and her *ahem* bare chest distracted them to the point they drove into an asteroid. Too funny.

The remaing issue has reprints of the first issues of The Savage She-Hulk and The Sensational She-Hulk. Marvel, more so than DC has always included old reprints in new issues, especially for annuals and one-shots. When I was a kid, I hated this, but now that I'm a bit older, I think it's a great idea. It lets fans see the old issues that started it all without having to shell out the big bucks.

I've recently heard that She-Hulk has been canceled again. Don't worry folks though, I'm sure she'll be hulking back in no time soon. Even Marvel.com jokes about it: "She's been savage. She's been sensational. She's been an avenger. She's been a lawyer. She's been a bounty-hunter. But there's one thing She-Hulk has always been, in all of her many series... cancelled. But it hasn't stopped her yet!"
Happy 100th!

The Preposterous Voyages of IronHide Tom

Ironhide Tom marooned againWriter/Artist: Joel Priddy
Publisher: Ad House Books
Published: May 2006

This was another one of those Free Comic Book Day comics given out every year. It also happens to be one of my favorite comics of all time. That added with it being free, makes this the Ultimo Supreme 4 Dragon Fists of Destined Destruction Comic! (I just read Wolverine: Manifest Destiny and watched Kung-Fu Panda, so yeah...)

The Preposterous Voyages of IronHide Tom comic is as if The Adventures of Baron Munchausen was rewritten into comic book form. IronHide Tom is the child of a sailor and a typhoon, who spends his life going on adventures. He has been bait for fishing vessels, lands on a giant egg that gives birth to a massive bird, visits mer-people under the sea, becomes a slave to a witch, is swallowed by a serpent, offends a storm god, becomes caught between amorous Kraken and so on; oh, and this is only half the of the story!

Now, for all you comic obsessed fans out there, IronHide Tom is indeed a one of a kind find, and I wish you luck on your voyage to find this gem. Hopefully it'll be a preposterous voyage.

Solo # 2: Richard Corben

Writers: Richard Corben, John Arcudi
Artist: Richard Corben
Publisher: DC
Published: February 2005

The second issue of Solo follows up the stellar opening by Sale. This issue has Richard Corben, the Master of the Grotesque, strutting his stuff. There are five tales, four as stand alone stories set outside the DC universe, and one concerning the Spectre.

The first four tales are classic Corben stuff, violence, forbidden treasures, and things never appearing as they are. The first tale has an imminent archaeologist in search of a forbidden treasure. He is met by a beautiful local, who warns him not to seek the treasure. By this time, bandits raid her home, knock the archaeologist out, and force her to lead them to the treasure...too bad for them, she's a mummy who ends up killing them. Suckas! As for the archaeologist, he wakes up and runs to the treasure room, only to have the door close behind him, trapping him forever. So as you can see, no happy endings here, and just desserts delivered courtesy of Corben.

The last tale about Spectre is a great read. It has Jim Corrigan (the human host to THE WRATH OF GOD - THE SPECTRE), following up a tip from a dead man as to the whereabouts of a killer. The dead man hopes his act of kindness will earn him a spot in Heaven, and The Spectre will get to enforce justice - holy style! Another spectacular issue from a spectacular series!

Gotham Girls # 1 of 5

Writer: Paul D. Storrie
Artist: J. Bone
Publisher: DC
Published: October 2002

DC's Gotham Girls is an all lady extravaganza, starring their biggest femme fatales. We gots Catwoman, Batgirl, Poison Ivy, Harley Quinn, and Detective Montoya, all on the hunt for a dangerous chemical. Issue one starts the ball rolling with Catwoman busting into a bio lab to steal a deadly chemical serum that can kill organic life. Batgirl gives chase, but loses Catwoman as she is forced to choose between capturing Catwoman or rescuing innocent lives. The issue ends with Catwoman knocked unconscious by Harley Quinn who then gives the serum to Poison Ivy. Oooh...let the fun begin!

Unfortunately I only have the first 3 issues of this series, so if you're relying on me to dish the goods as to how it all ends, you're gonna have to wait a wee bit. In the mean time check out the animated internet videos the series was based off...that should wet your fanboy thirsts for now! So long suckas!

Battle For A Three Dimensional World

Writer: Ray Zone
Artist: Jack Kirby
Publisher: 3D Cosmic Publications
Published: 1982

Jack Kirby was known for his eye popping artwork, ie. is characters jumped off the page. Now imagine Jack Kirby's eye popping art in 3D! Yeah, I know...I just made your day...punk.

The story revolves around Stereon and his battle against the shape changing Circe and her quest to destroy the 3 dimensional world. Circe lives in a 2D universe and sends out "flatties" to destroy the key inventors who developed 3D technology. In the end she transforms into a giant cyclops, but is defeated by Stereon and his Red and Blue glasses.

That's the premise of the story, but the true intention of the Zone and Kirby are to describe the history of how 3D was invented.

Did you know:

1. Leonardo Da Vinci realized that our 2 eyes see 2 images at once and thus we perceive 3 dimensional depth.
2. Charles Wheatstone invented a mirror stereoscope, known as the 3D viewer.
3. Ducos Du Hauron developed the method to separate stereo images via 2 channels, red and blue, for group viewing with glasses.
4. and some more facts that I'm too lazy to write...

So, in summary, not only did Jack Kirby's art look even more fantastic in 3D, but I learned at minimum 3 facts about 3D. 3 Cheers For 3D!

Dawn # 5 of 6

Writer/Artist: Joseph Michael Linsner
Publisher: Sirius
Published: 1995

2009!

Wow!

With the new year I am all but compelled to sit back, mull some cider, and mull over the last year, and dream about the next. I originally wanted to start the new year with a Jack Kirby 3-D comic review, but I could not pass up this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to review Dawn, at the DAWN of a New Year. Yep, that just happened.

That being said, in my excitement to review a comic called Dawn at the DAWN of a New Year, I unfortunately have not taken the time to learn anything about this character. So instead, I offer a brief summary and 2 excerpts of issue # 5.

Summary: Issue # 5 is about this guy named Darrian who has a halo that is highly wanted, and he is caught in a war between Heaven and Hell. Apparently he is stronger than both sides as he is The Horned God. Dawn is the Goddess of Birth and Rebirth.

Exceprts I & II:

"I will love you like none other for I have died a thousand tiny deaths...
and every time I died...
I thought of YOU." - Dawn
" The Spirit of The Horned God lives within you.
Come,
Let me adore you." - DawnC.O.M.I.X.3.6.5
